Alternative School Graduation Introduction
Matthew Hildebrand
Director of Administrator Services

Good evening graduates, families, friends, honored guests, and welcome.

Tonight, we gather to celebrate something truly meaningful. We are here to recognize and honor the graduates of Township High School District 211’s Alternative High School Programs. Graduates—this is your moment.

The District 211 Alternative Night School program is a unique and invaluable program that provides anyone, 17 years or older the opportunity to complete their graduation requirements and earn a high school diploma. This program meets here at Hoffman Estates High School in the evenings. Several years ago, we adopted the moniker…Alternative Night School NIGHTHWAWKS as a testament to our home and the characteristics of our program and our students.

The range of students and their experiences that have come through this program are amazing….our students are amazing. Some left school recently due to a variety of challenges, circumstances, or obstacles. Others have found their way to the Alternative Night School Program years, sometimes decades after leaving school before completion. The grit, character, and resilience that our students have shown is remarkable and I commend all those that are before me.

This evening is more than the conclusion of your high school experience. It is more than receiving a diploma. Tonight represents perseverance, resilience, growth, and the beginning of whatever comes next.

As a faculty, we could not be prouder of you. We are proud not only of your accomplishments, but of the determination and commitment that brought you here. Your hard work, your persistence, your late nights, your sacrifices, and your willingness to keep moving forward have earned you this moment.

And make no mistake—this is something significant.

Not everyone gets here. You did.

Life has a way of throwing challenges at all of us. For some, life throws a little more. Circumstances, decisions, setbacks, and obstacles may shape the path we travel, but they do not define who we become.
What defines you is your response.

Grit—that ability to keep going when things are difficult—is one of the most valuable qualities you can carry into the future. The world is complex, uncertain, and constantly changing. But the perseverance you have demonstrated here will serve you well long after tonight.

There are undoubtedly people along the way who supported you, encouraged you, challenged you, and refused to let you quit. Parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, friends, mentors, and loved ones—thank you. Your support has mattered more than you know, and we recognize the important role you have played in helping our graduates reach this milestone.

Graduates, while tonight is a celebration shared with those who supported you, ultimately this accomplishment belongs to you. You are the ones walking across this stage. You are the ones who did the work. You earned this diploma through your effort, and your commitment to keep moving forward.

Be proud of that.

As you move forward, remember this: opportunity is simply a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something meaningful. Every one of you took the opportunities in front of you and turned them into something important. This evening is a celebration of that.

Graduates, this is your time to move forward with confidence. Continue to explore, continue to grow, and continue to believe in what is possible for yourselves.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. We are proud of you, we believe in you, and we cannot wait to see where life takes you next.

And now, it is my honor to introduce tonight’s Alternative Night School student speaker Yulissa Arroyo Alva.

Keynote and Acceptance of the Class of 2026
Dr. Judith Campbell
District 211 Superintendent

Greetings Alternative, Higgins, and North Campus High School Class of 2026.

I am so excited to be in this space and place, as tonight is about something bigger than you getting your diploma. It’s about perseverance, growth, courage, and most importantly, it’s about each and every one of you.

As I stand proudly here tonight at my first graduation ceremony as Superintendent of Township High School District 211, while reflecting on this year’s theme: United in Purpose, Powered by Passion, I can honestly say proud is an understatement, as I have watched you bring our theme to life.

You are united in purpose as every person sitting in front of me made a decision to keep going. Maybe your path looked different. Maybe your timeline was not traditional. Maybe your journey came with obstacles, other people never saw or understood. But you kept moving. You are powered by passion because
somewhere inside you, even on the hardest days, there was still a spark that refused to quit.

Your story is defined by how you’ve responded.Whether you had to fight through barriers others never had to face, your learning took place with your own style.

In fact, one of the greatest lessons life teaches us is that people who grow through adversity often become the people who change the world around them.

You continue to show resilience, determination and heart. And those qualities will
take you farther than you can imagine.

Tonight, I want you to think about how much you’ve grown in just this year. At one point, maybe life asked you questions like:  “Can I do this?” “Do I belong?” “Am I capable?” “Will I ever make it?”

But look at you now. Those questions have become statements: I can do this. I do belong. I am capable and I have made it. Here is what I want you to remember, this is your day, this is your time, this is your hour, and this is YOUR moment.

As I approach my closing, I also want you to also know this……you have inspired me. As the new superintendent, this year gave me the opportunity to learn your stories, visit your schools, meet your teachers, and witness your growth firsthand.

You sincerely have fueled my passion even more, that keeps me grounded in my WHY. You continue to remind me why relationships, hope, dreaming, and laughter matter.

Families, friends, teachers, and D211 staff, you also deserve recognition, as these amazing students would not be here without you. Class of 2026, look at the village surrounding you today, as this is just the beginning of what support looks like.

Whatever this new chapter entails, be reminded that your value is not determined by how closely your journey matches someone else’s. Your value comes from who you are, how you treat people, and the strength you carry within you.

You are phenomenal, You are capable, You are needed, You are leading and most importantly Class of 2026, You are now graduate. As I turn it over to Board Member Jane Russell, to accept your class. Congratulations to you and Congratulations to your families!
